As one of the African continent’s most recent success stories, Zambia was keen to show the world not only its beautiful natural scenery, but its triumphs in modernizing its urban environment. Visitors were first introduced to Zambia through a birds-eye view of the world-famous Victoria Falls. Moving to an open central area, or ‘town square’, they were shown different architectural styles and learned about a number of urban development or renewal projects that have contributed to the country’s great strides forward. Pico created numerous models and mock-ups, including a red brick residential building, a cluster of crude dwellings, a commercial building, a skyscraper and an industrial park.
